About Our Farm:
Full Heart Farm is a small, family farm in Ledyard, CT that grows over 100 types of vegetables, as well as berries, herbs and cut flowers, to feed the families of our FarmShare Program. We are honored to be the farmers for over 75 families that join our farm each season.

Our members are the heart of our farm; we know them all by name and look forward to visiting with them each week.  We grow their food with high attention to health, quality, and sustainability.  We have created a space where our children, and theirs, can freely roam the fields and snack without concern of synthetic fertilizers or pesticides.  We select varieties that are beautiful, delicious, and make cooking healthy, farm-fresh meals simple to do.

In addition to our members, we harvest food for several local businesses and wholesale accounts.

Objective:
We are seeking happy + hardworking folks to join our farm crew for the 2019 season!

Our goal at Full Heart Farm is not only to grow beautiful, Instagram-worthy produce and flowers, but to show others how effortless it can feel to cook with and enjoy farm-fresh food.  We do this by maintaining extremely high attention to detail in the fields and cooking A LOT of delicious food.

Our other goal is to create a sustainable farm operation.  For us that means that in addition to taking care of the soil, we take care of ourselves.  We hustle in the fields and at the washing station during the mornings so that we can spend most of our day doing other things we enjoy: cooking, reading, and spending time with family.  It also means that our three toddlers frequently learn and play alongside us while we work.

An ideal candidate will enjoy rigorous early morning work, not squeal upon finding an insect in salad mix, and laugh repeatedly at carrots shaped like pants.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Farm crew members will work directly with the owner of the farm and other farm employees on a wide range of tasks including but not limited to:
  • Greenhouse work (seed starting, maintenance, harvest)
  • Fieldwork (soil prep, planting, cultivation, weeding, harvest)
  • Washing and packing produce
  • Cleaning and bunching flowers
  • Record keeping
  • Cleaning, sanitizing, organizing equipment and materials
  • Maintaining high standards of hygiene
  • And the ever-essential farm requirement: “other tasks, as needed”, as there is always something unexpected that requires an extra set of hands!

Term:
This position starts in early April and runs through the end of August.

Schedule:
This is a SUPER part-time position, at 8-12 hours a week, designed for retired folks looking for a side job or younger folks juggling a few different positions.
All crew members will be expected to work on Mondays from May through August, as this is our busiest harvest day.  The remainder of the schedule can be tailored to best fit the needs of the crew member and the farm.  Starting and ending times are adjusted seasonally and during the spring/summer we start work as early as 5AM and we rarely work past 1PM, year-round, aside from operating the farm stand.

Qualifications:
  • Some experience working on a garden or farm
  • Take pleasure in meaningful, tangible work
  • Enjoy repetitive tasks
  • Ability to bend and reach repeatedly for extended periods of time
  • Ability to work at pace in all weather and temperatures
  • Ability to organize and keep a workspace tidy
  • Ability to follow directions and work with a team
  • Ability to find humor in challenging situations
  • Doesn’t mind damp socks

To Apply:
Please email your resume, cover letter and references (one professional, one personal) to info@fullheartfarm.com

Thank you!
